A sad moment, the death of an old FO car and the replacement now...

Wow 13 months now since the last update, the following are images of 42220 at a community venue.

The new TAM car now not so new to look at due to damage in the post, anyway a glue up with the glue gun and the weather gun it now looks the part....

I should have included 4457 in the last post but better late than never, this loco also got the gun yesterday...

without the obvious perspective here with 4457 parked on the kitchen table and no I haven't bothered revering the fuel tanks to opposite sides (yet) is the weathering is a perspective for the layout. Many who are into modelling would look at the trains on the layout and think OMG why spoil a shiny fresh looking loco or rolling stock with black out over the loco's in particular? The obvious is or I should say was out west the railways didn't bother with the image presented on the main southern or Newcastle lines, that is with the exception of stainless steel passenger trains, the rest local passenger and goods rolling stock varied in condition and never seen a bucket of suds and a sponge hahaha.
What drew my attention over the years is a fair number of loco's looked like burn outs still running, and when they did receive some attention in a loco shed it was basic wax mixed with diesel to budge the blackened exhaust and oil from an enamel paint job down the sides, after a week or so from the loco shed wax and a lush type of shine up... they then looked dull and faded, after a few visits to the wax bucket brigade eager to remove build up from the paint; the paint started dissolving as enamel didn't have a long life span, anyway the up shot is trains working west look nothing like trains on the coast lines for sure.
Railway pride didn't much have a place with the first and second generation Goodwin Alco loco's 44-442 and 80 included till the great SRA auction and sell off in 1994 did trains out west start looking different with private operators updating and refurbish of GM's the survivors still running main line now fifty years with two pack paint jobs, the eye catcher now is the variety of livery and spotting 422 class now renumbered out and about, the Goodwin loco's now a memory are either scrapped of stored with only a few exceptions still out there in the vast west decaying into history.
Sunday, Day six since 42213 has emerged and yesterday the final weathering happened. The following is a photo of the loco the day I took possession and the second photo yesterday...

Thursday 9 January 2014

42213 update, the locomotive met up with the air brush yesterday for a decent weathering, the unit is still a bit of a blank canvas and over the coming winter months will add truck steps hand rails and brass 5 chime air horns, don't seem much but makes a huge difference to the visual...

A few more...

I spoke in recent post about the mobility of the layout and the ease of disassemble and reassemble for moving with transportation.

Another key aspect of the layout is simplicity with power (electricity) I have kept this side of the hobby as simple as I can, this also includes limited points to two only on the inner good circuit this circuit has one Spectrum Magnum 12 volt controller, the circuit flow with a breaker on the main line before the first set of points to a siding line that runs into a second set of point controlling two end sidings.

The outer line on the layout is independent with no points and it's own Spectrum Magnum 12 volt controller.

I have attended a few model train shows including QR railway work shops at Ipswich (next one this March) the one thing that I have noticed is the more complex the layout the more time is required with not just setting up and dismantling but also the need for multiple adaptors for power requiring a hard wired mains supply to the grid. Another issue I have observed is current flow problems, points problems due to complexity. There is nothing more disappointing than attending a show only to find dead layouts due to a power problem with individual issues or the grid is out.

Loumeah railway historical can be plugged into the grid or independent in any location away from grid with it's own 1000 watt 4 stoke generator and a gallon of petrol will run all day, simple to run maintain and move.

I was bored while a storm went over...

The lunacy now is 42213 is running dummy for a while till I sort a truck issue, have trucks I thought would suit but there is a snag so till I find a solution the plastic fantastic 42213 is a dead unit behind 42220.
In the few following photos 42213 looks fresh out of a mould, 42220 use to look pretty and sparkling till I got the gun out, hope anyone looking enjoys the insanity. Before I forget? the passenger train passing is headed by 42219....

Sunday 5 January 2014

Hello to those who drop in for a look on my blog, the blog has now been active for a few years and and has seen some changes with development then loss of enthusiasm due to not getting it right the first time around as a railway modeller even though I did retain some stock from the first generation loumeahrailwayhistorical most was sold off or scrapped.
I learned the hard way with ideals in mind what I remembered as a kid? could turn out; out of place and indeed was the case with having heavy emphasis on country setting was the mix of suburban electrics, this was one costly exercise as others. Mistake purchases on eBay another dear learning curb entering the bidding side, now I only go in and buy now and or new from manufacturers distributors such as Austrain, Auscision, Eureka, Ahearn and second hand Lima, Lime been what I shop for on eBay, other than these five manufacturers I don't bother with the rest.
The layout now on two mobile tables bolted together with a channel, is much what remember as a young bloke out west, far western NSW. The idea now is if I like I can take apart the layout in two stages and with ease transport two halves folded on casters folded down and ready to transport in thirty minutes, reassemble an hour with track soldering the joins from separation. The idea of the tables was one of need as I am getting on in life and living on my own I am looking to down size on the home front with the idea of resettling some place smaller in a more quiet location.

Ah the detail of it all with Ausicion 42219 and Lima 42220. A added pic is 4457...

Sunday 29 December 2013

42220 with a repair in undercoat grey on the side roof, also fitted now but not noticeable are rear view mirrors, one guess what the repair was?.
Also about to make a return is 42213 after a long spell in storage, the unit was modified with Austrains 80 class drive and chassis, however the chassis is been changed back to the original Lima 422 as 42220 was two years back. 42220 retained the Austrains drive fitted onto the original 422 chassis but 42213 is receiving it's original chassis with Ahearn drive and why is the success with the low speed tolerance of 4457 fitted up the same with Ahearn drive 3 years now. The Austrain drive is quiet and will run all day as it does but will stall on lower current. Auscision 42219 is the gem of the fleet for detail and with time and effort to get it right the Lima loco's are on par without the light show, in fact the time spent rebuilding with fitting up and appearance make over is the hobby hands on side I enjoy the most.
